Post-Winter Olympics Reflections
Although the Winter Olympics have ended, the excitement surrounding winter sports continues to sweep across China. Recently, the top trending topics have included the mascots "Bing Dwen Dwen" and "Shuey Rhon Rhon," athletes Gu Ailing, Su Yiming, and Yuzuru Hanyu, among others. Many popular topics have emerged, such as #OpeningCeremony-TheRomanceOfChina, #BingDwenDwen-PleaseImplementOnePerHousehold, #ShortTrackSpeedSkatingWinsChinasFirstGoldMedal, #YouAreOurSkiingChampion, #GeniusGirlGuAiling. These have added a vibrant touch to this Winter Olympics.
As an ordinary Chinese citizen, this Winter Olympics has deeply impressed me with the greatness of my motherland. Despite the severe global pandemic, China hosted an unforgettable Winter Olympics, showcasing China's strength to the world. Our winter sports athletes demonstrated the spirit of sportsmanship, striving for excellence and displaying their best performance, providing a spectacular visual feast for the global audience. I also had the opportunity to learn about many outstanding athletes, and from them, I learned about focus, perseverance, self-challenge, and teamwork.
At this Winter Olympics, if you were to ask which athlete shone the brightest, it would undoubtedly be 18-year-old Gu Ailing. Gu Ailing became the first athlete to win three freestyle skiing medals at a single Olympics and the youngest athlete to win three Winter Olympics medals, earning her the title of "genius girl." When asked how she balances studying and skiing, she said that when she's exercising, she's 100% committed to exercising, and when she's studying, she's 100% committed to studying. She doesn't think about one when doing the other. Because of her love, she is focused, and because of her focus, she strives for excellence.
Winning is not the only meaning of sports. More important than challenging opponents is challenging oneself and the limits of human potential. In the Beijing Winter Olympics figure skating competition, Yuzuru Hanyu fell while attempting the 4A jump, ultimately finishing 4th. The audience sighed with regret. If he hadn't been so focused on the 4A and had chosen a less difficult jump, he might have delivered a perfect performance and won a medal. Considering Hanyu's age and condition, this was likely his last Winter Olympics. However, he dominated figure skating for nearly a decade, winning two Olympic gold medals, and challenging the 4A on the final stage... He is like a beautiful white cherry blossom, blooming like snow, falling like poetry.
In the final of the men's 1000m short track speed skating at the Beijing Winter Olympics, the race was stopped and restarted with four laps remaining. Afterwards, Chinese athlete Wu Dajing was exhausted, but he secured a gold medal for China. During the race, he said one word to Ren Ziwei behind him, "Go." This move moved countless people, demonstrating the unity of Olympic athletes and their focus on national interests.
